Personality and behavior

The Komondor was bred to make independent decisions while guarding livestock. Its protective role is a reason to plan introductions and management carefully, rather than assume a universal response to unfamiliar people or animals.

Exercise and activities

Livestock guarding is the breed's traditional activity. That history provides context for its vigilance and independent work, but it does not supply a universal daily exercise target.

Training and enrichment

Care planning: choose one everyday skill to practice and keep a record of each session. Note the cue, the reward your dog enjoys and what went well. Rotate familiar games and new activities, and use your notes to choose the next small step.

Coat and grooming

The developing cords need separation so that they do not become one large mat. A mature corded coat takes a long time to dry after bathing. The source distinguishes puppy shedding from the lower moulting it reports after cords have formed.

Living with this breed

Care planning: compare this profile's adult dimensions, coat care and available activity information with your household's routine. Make a shortlist, plan who will handle daily care and save the questions you want to ask a breed club, rescue or breeder.
